The Urban Chic fashion fundraiser returns Aug. 7 for its third year. The event presents the cutting edge of Atlanta fashion and culture and benefits AID Atlanta.
The evening is set to feature live music and other entertainment, but of course the focus are the fashions sent down the runway by local boutiques, including Addiction, Bill Hallman, Lui-B and Threadhouse, among others.
Chairman Richie Arpino, a gay Atlanta socialite and salon owner who has been involved with Urban Chic since its inception, says that it’s important to organizers to keep the event specific to Atlanta.
“We used only local designers and boutiques, pretty much local everything,” Arpino says. “We’re trying to keep it in the community.”
In addition to the fashion show, the event also features a live auction. Among the items up for grabs are two round-trip tickets anywhere in the world, courtesy Delta Air Lines.
Arpino says the appeal of Urban Chic lies in its stylish, classy execution of a fun evening.
“It’s got everything that you want: great food, great entertainers, everybody dresses up really cool because it’s a fashion event,” he says. “This year especially, because it’s at the Fox Theatre, it’s just a really fun kind of evening, like you’re going to the Grammys or something like that.”
