The
Atlanta
Gay
Men’s
Chorus
takes
the
stage
at
the
Alliance
Theatre
June
27-28
for
a
night
of
triumph
and
tragedy
as
told
through
the
music
of
the
legendary
songwriting
team
of
composer
John
Kander
and
lyricist
Fred
Ebb.
The
concert,
“They
Had
it
Coming:
The
Music
of
Kander
&
Ebb,”
was
crafted
by
AGMC
Artistic
Director
Kevin
Robison.
The
revue
has
been
called
“musical
theatre’s
long-overdue
love
letter
from
the
gay
community”
to
the
duo
whose
musicals
include
“Chicago,”
“Cabaret,”
“New
York,
New
York,”
and
“Kiss
of
the
Spider
Woman.”
Robison
says
he
is
often
asked
how
“gay”
the
show
is.
“There
were
times
when
Kander
and
Ebb
knew
they
were
writing
gay
subtext,
but
at
other
times,
they
just
wrote
about
the
human
experience,”
he
says.
“Like
with
much
of
the
music
AGMC
performs,
original
lyrics,
without
a
single
change,
take
on
a
whole
new
meaning
when
sung
by
gay
men.”
The
finale
medley
of
“Cabaret”
and
the
song
“Life
is...”
from
“Zorba”
blends
gospel
and
rock
elements,
and
a
rousing
encore
is
also
promised.
“No
one
will
go
home
depressed,”
Robison
says.
