A
week
of
events
to
raise
funds
for
the
Hope
Clinic
of
the
Emory
Vaccine
Center
kicks
off
with
a
5k
walk/run
on
May
10
and
culminates
with
the
annual
ActionCycling200,
a
May
17-18
bike
event
in
which
riders
gather
pledges
to
raise
funds
for
the
clinic.
“This
is
just
absolutely
vital
to
everything
that
we
do,”
said
Paula
Frew
of
the
Hope
Clinic.
“The
Hope
Clinic
is
about
the
community,
and
we
must
get
out
there
and
educate
about
prevention.”
Between
the
Hope
Springs
Eternal
5k
Run
&
Walk
and
Action
Cycling
200
fundraisers,
a
series
of
other
events
are
scheduled
to
raise
awareness
about
Hope’s
clinical
trials
on
HIV/AIDS
and
other
infectious
diseases.
On
May
12,
gay
actors
Mitchell
Anderson
(“Party
of
Five”),
Dan
Butler
(“Frasier”),
Peter
Paige
(“Queer
as
Folk”)
and
Amanda
Bearse
(“Married
with
Children”)
stage
a
reading
of
Larry
Kramer’s
1985
play,
“The
Normal
Heart,”
about
creating
the
Gay
Men’s
Health
Crisis
in
1981
and
1982.
The
Hope
in
Our
Soul
symposium
on
May
14
focuses
on
educating
African-American
clergy.
On
May
16,
SisterLove
premieres
the
documentary
“The
AIDS
Chronicles:
Here
to
Represent,”
which
weaves
together
stories
of
people
with
AIDS,
advocates
and
experts.
Frew
said
these
and
more
events
are
purposely
scattered
around
the
metro
area.
“The
idea
is
we
really
wanted
to
have
all
these
activities
happening
around
Atlanta
so
we’re
not
focusing
on
one
particular
area
of
town,
but
we
have
events
all
around
town,”
she
said.
There’s
still
time
to
participate
in
or
pledge
to
the
ActionCyling
200
event.
