Letter to the Editor

“For the record, we’re both straight. We’re not dating.”

Former *NSYNC singer JC Chasez about his alleged relationship with “Gossip Girl” actor Chace Crawford, whom Chasez describes as a “super nice guy.” (US Magazine, March 26) (Photo by AP)

“We don’t support Connecticut civil union returns.”

Message that gay couple Jason Smith and Settimio Pisu received when trying to file their taxes through H&R Block’s online service, TaxCut Online. The ACLU wrote a letter to H&R Block claiming that the company violates Connecticut’s non-discrimination laws by only serving civil union couples through its more expensive phone or office services. (ACLU, March 25)

“We didn’t know if they were going to give us our own room or not. We basically looked at it as if we were going to work at the same restaurant. Not to say that we were hiding the fact that we were a couple and that we weren’t going to touch each other, but that there would be a certain amount of professionalism; certain things you do, and don’t.”

Zoi, a contestant on the Bravo reality show “Top Chef,” on appearing on the show with her partner, fellow contestant Jennifer. (The Advocate, March 25)

“It’s a pervasive problem. I took my godson a few months ago. I won’t take him again. He’s 6. I don’t want him looking around and seeing other men engaging in this behavior and thinking this is the way you behave.”

Kevin Jennings, executive director of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, complaining about chants of “Homo Larry” and other anti-gay slurs used by fans during New York Rangers hockey games. (New York Times, March 21)

“The fans were looking to vent their frustration on somebody and unfortunately it was me. … That’s how it will always be and that’s what makes it part of the fun in going to a Rangers game in New York City, for God’s sake.”

Larry Goodman, the fan whose flamboyant dances prompt the chant, responding to the concerns from Jennings and other gay leaders. Goodman says he is not gay. (New York Times, March 21)

“It’s just drawn us even closer together. I get up every morning early and pray for her protection and everything. … I’m not saying anything that I have to apologize for or be afraid to say because we don’t hate homosexuals, we want to help them. We want them to find the forgiveness of God just like everybody else. We’re not here to condemn them.”

Rev. Steve Kern, husband of Okla. Rep. Sally Kern, on how outcry over her remarks comparing gays to terrorists has affected their relationship. (The Oklahoman, March 21)

Sally and Steve Kern are displaying classic sociopathic tendancies. Sociopaths rarely feel any remorse for their actions, and the high degree of self-esteem that they feel can usually be tied to their self justification and rationalization for their actions. Sociopaths have wreaked havoc on societies throughout recorded history, and nothing seems to ever change. Dick Mills
