Record crowds watched the Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce honor its outstanding members at its Community Awards Dinner March 20 at the Georgia Aquarium.
“The event exceeded all of our expectations,” said AGLCC board president Glen Paul Freedman. “We had 370 people at the aquarium. We had to add two tables in the last two days to accommodate all the last minute calls.”
Attendees were granted a private tour of the world’s largest aquarium and dined on Wolfgang Puck creations. VIPs were treated to a champagne reception, and WETBar hosted an after party. The event is the largest ever put on by the chamber.
“The AGLCC has seen such tremendous growth the past several years,” said Carla Corley, past president of the AGLCC. “Receiving the 2007 Chamber of the Year award and having our 10th Annual Community Awards event at the Georgia Aquarium are testaments as to how far we’ve come.”
Previously, the largest event had been 200 people. Freedman said the chamber is the first gay organization to host an event at the aquarium since it opened in 2005.
“When you’re standing in that room with community leaders, business leaders, gay and straight, with the Beluga whales in front of you, it is just awe inspiring,” he said.
