Everyone loves
Ellen, and the bestknown
lesbian out
there in TV land is
no longer downplaying
her sexual
orientation. First,
she publicly decried
the death of gay
teen Lawrence King
on her Emmy-winning
show. Then
took homophobic
Oklahoma State Rep.
Sally Kern to task
just days later, even attempting to call the
legislator’s office to set things straight, so to
speak.
With people in the public eye like Ellen
speaking out on our behalf, we hope the
ignorance and bigotry that exists against us
(as shown by our Foe listed below) will soon
be shoved into the closet itself.
Oregon State
Sen. Gary George
(R-McMinnville)
wants gays to “shut
up” about who they
are in the workplace,
as revealed
in an interview with
Just Out, a gay
newspaper. The full
interview is slated
for release today
(March 21) but was teased on the paper’s
website (www.justout.com) earlier this week.
George, a co-sponsor of a bill to repeal
his state’s recently enacted Oregon Equality
Act, told Just Out the gays are whining too
much. And, he added, if they don’t keep their
mouths shut, there could be repercussions.
When asked about people being fired for
being gay or transgender, George snapped,
“My advice to the gay community is shut up,
just don’t talk about it. If you walk around
talking about what you do in the bedroom,
you should be on the pervert channel.”
Oh, please shut up.
