Celebrations is a free monthly column where readers can announce weddings, commitment
ceremonies, engagements, births, adoptions, promotions, awards, anniversaries, birthdays — any
celebration you want to share with our community.

The column is published in the first issue of each month. The deadline is Nov. 3 for next month’s column, which will appear in the Nov. 7 issue.

Email entries to celebrations@sovo.com. Please include the text as you want the entry to read. Full names and contact information must be included so that information can be confirmed, but this information will not be published unless requested.

ANNIVERSARIES

Wayne Berry and Steven King are celebrating their 12th anniversary of marriage on Oct. 28. Twelve years together as husband and husband! (We don’t know how that happens, either. Just glad it does!)

AWARDS

I’m celebrating winning the 2008 Creative Loafing Critic’s Pick for Best Burlesque Dancer in Atlanta.

I’ve worked really hard for the last five years trying to perfect my craft. I’ve experienced a good bit of flack regarding my name. Experienced some latent homophobia and racism and yet I still continue to perform because I’m wholeheartedly committed to the idea of women of size, queer folks, and women of color taking up erotic space.

It means a lot to get critical acclaim and I want to thank all the folks who voted for me, and my queer community who have always been a safe port in the storm.

WEDDINGS

SKYE- SICILY

Tristan Skye of Atlanta, Ga., and Sicily of Gwinnett, Ga., announce their upcoming marriage on Oct. 25, 2008. Tristan Skye is founder of TransAmerica, (www.transamerica.ning.com), a social networking site for the transgendered community, and Sicily is founder of The Warrior Union (www.youtube.com/warriorunion), an online fitness and nutrition vlog. The intimate ceremony will be held with close friends at a cabin in Helen, Ga., and officiated by Apostle Randy Morgan of New Covenant Church of Atlanta.

STRINGER-WALKER

William Ronald Stringer & Gary C. Walker of Macon Georgia, were married at the Lyford Tower in Tiburon, Calif., on Aug. 5, 2008.  Officiating and coordinating the ceremony was the Rev. Rosalie Mohr of Eloping on the Bay. Close friend of the couple Roy Lamb served as Best Man via telecommunication as he was unable to physically attend the ceremony. The couple’s ceremony was held inside the Lyford Tower where Rev. Mohr had placed a family photograph of the couple’s children and grandchildren. The intimate ceremony was held with a back drop of the couple’s favorite songs and a bay view outside the tower.

Gary is originally from a rural south Georgia town which he served as city councilman for eight years before relocating to Macon, Ga. He currently serves as an Operations Manager for one of the middle Georgia stores, which have shown an enormous amount of support and well wishes from the store he is currently in and the surrounding area stores.  Will had worked in health care nutrition in several south Georgia towns before relocating to Macon which many have sent congratulatory calls and letters for the big event. He currently works as an Admissions Director for a local post acute rehab center.

The couple hosted a reception at their home which friends, family and co-workers attended after their return from California. Two of the couples best friends Roy Lamb & Carmen Beecher toasted the happy couple’s marriage. The couples two sons and their families Jason Stringer and Mr. & Mrs. Joshua Stringer and their grandson Ryan Stringer braved the  hazardous weather of tropical storm Fay as they drove up from south eastern Georgia to be with their two dads to show their support.
